Woolworths
A concept design for an updated, modern and on-trend website.
Project:
This project was divided into two parts, the UI Design and research a problem faced by the company
Woolworths redesign was a design challenge, to create a UI with certain business and technical constraints. The
conceptual design required research, Hi-fi mock-up and multi-device explorations.
Duration: 1 Month (October 2019)
Responsibilities: Research (surveys, interviews); UI design; Multi device exploration.
About the Project: The conceptual UI Design project was based on a research assignment on the same
company.
The results from the research yielded unhappy customers, who felt the current website was outdated and
difficult to navigate. The frustration created by the website often led customer to either shop at a different
website or a different store entirely.
The goal of the redesign was to encourage consumer to shop online entirely or to shop online for pick
up/delivery,effectively decreasing queues and wait time in physical stores. The decreased number of in-store
shoppers would enable more shopper to get the product they are looking for, therefore increasing customer
satisfaction and increasing revenue.
Our users are financially secure, busy individuals looking for quality whilst being short on time. They need to be
able to find what they are looking, with accompanying suggestions in a timely fashion; order it and pick up the
product on the way home from work. All without spending time in queues or be disappointed.
The technical constraints would be down time for consumer facing aspects of the website and accurately
defining product categories in a manner that is easy for the customer to understand. This all had to done
whilst keeping multiple devices running.
Results: In theory the design and exploration met the needs of the customer and alleviated the pain points
identified through the research. The concept also serves to increase customer retention and increase revenue
which is a standard business goal.
Working though this design and research taught me, sometime an impressive and futuristic store can come at
the cost of a neglected online presence. That one aspect can really bring down a brand aesthetic.
